Anyone who knows me, knows that I LOVE food. And I don't just love it in the sense that I think it tastes good and I enjoy eating it. I truly have a passion for cooking, trying new foods, eating healthy, fresh foods that have been prepared in delicious ways, and finding foods for which great care and consideration was taken in the preparation. San Francisco has a lot going for it, but one of the standout aspects of this city is its food. One of the first things I noticed when I moved here was the greater emphasis that San Franciscans place on fresh, whole, and local foods. Vegetarian options abound here and meat eaters willingly choose vegetarian meals over meat-filled options regularly. Overall, California is much more "green" than other places I have visited. This is seen in grocery stores where, unless you bring your own bags, you pay 10 cents for each bag your groceries fill. Another thing that's noticeable about SF right from the get-go is how many places there are to eat. On my walk to work (2.5 miles), I see around 15 coffee shops/cafes alone. They line the streets and are at almost every corner. What's great about this city is that, despite the abundance, there is still an emphasis on quality. These aren't Starbucks; they are cozy, non-corporate cafes, staffed with young baristas, serving up quality food and drinks. So I guess I'll start with coffee shops and cafes.
I could go on about SF food forever. There are so many options that it can be overwhelming at times, but you know you're living well when all the food you consume tastes delicious. Below are some photos of other foods I have had while living here.
